The Great Greenwood is a story of imagination, friendship and discovery.

Join Emma as she ventures into an extraordinary forest and meets Old Feather, Gobo and a curious group of woodland friends. As their adventure unfolds, challenges are faced, lessons are learned, and the forest's greatest secret is revealed — a secret that shows just how deeply connected the natural world really is.

🎨 A Note About the Illustrations in the book

As a practising artist, I am now beginning the exciting process of creating original hand-painted illustrations for The Great Greenwood, bringing the woodland to life through my own painting — including work in oils on copper, a medium I particularly love for its warmth, depth and luminosity. Over time, the temporary digital imagery will gradually be replaced by my original artwork, so visitors will be able to watch The Great Greenwood evolve from an imagined digital world into a hand-painted one.

I’ll be sharing parts of that journey as the paintings develop. 🌳🎨

🍄 Inspiration behind The Great Greenwood

Did you know that the Root Keepers of The Great Greenwood story are inspired by something that really exists?

Beneath every forest lies an extraordinary underground network called the Wood Wide Web. Tiny threads of fungi, known as mycelium, connect the roots of trees and plants, helping forests share nutrients, water and important messages. Scientists have discovered that forests are not simply collections of individual trees. They are living communities, connected in ways we are only beginning to understand.
