Did you know that the Root Keepers of The Great Greenwood are inspired by something that really exists?

Beneath every forest lies an extraordinary underground network called the Wood Wide Web. Tiny threads of fungi, known as mycelium, connect the roots of trees and plants, helping forests share nutrients, water and important messages.

Scientists have discovered that forests are not simply collections of individual trees. They are living communities, connected in ways we are only beginning to understand.

The mysterious Root Keepers in our story were inspired by these hidden networks beneath the forest floor.
